Heart of a Samurai

Heart of a Samurai
by Margi Preus
Manjiro, a twelve-year-old Japanese boy, and some other people were shipwrecked by a storm, and have lived on a deserted island for a long time. Then, one day, some whaling men rescue them and teach them about U.S.A.. Manjiro decides to go to America with them and, wrestles a turtle, finds gold, and does a race on a horse. It's sad, exciting, and mysterious.  While I like most things dealing with Japan, there was too much sadness for my preference.
